Marc's is a step closer to having a bigger and better looking store in Solon.
The Solon Planning Commission passed plans for Marc's expansion on to the city council, which is expected to vote on a revised site plan and some variances for the project on Sept. 4.
Marc's hopes to build a 4,400-square-foot addition onto the back of the store and also add on another 8,300 square feet by expanding into the Pet Supplies Plus location next door. Pet Supplies Plus plans to move to the under-development Solon Village at the corner of SOM Center and Aurora roads.
The exterior renovations include facing the building -- both Marc's and storefronts to the south -- with a red brick to bring that part of the building into better symmetry with Sears on the north end of the plaza.
"I think it's a major improvement," said planning commission member William Mazur.
Kurt Schmitz with ADA Achitects, representing Marc's, said they hope to have the work done "as soon as possible."
Marc's has been busy updating the look of many of their stores in the Cleveland area.
Solon has been on a tear with updating its shopping plazas this year. Solon Village, featuring a new Market District Giant Eagle, is under swift construction. Solon Square will see some changes too, including the addition of Earth Fare.
Rehabbing the city's aging shopping plazas has been a major goal for city officials and a bone of contention for residents, who want better shopping options.
