Football Preview: Solon Comets Versus Glenville Tarblooders
The Glenville Tarblooders will present a big challenge to the Solon Comets when they play at Solon High School at 7 p.m. tonight.
Tonight is a big test for the 1-0 Solon High School Football Comets.
After a thrilling come-from-behind win last week over Shaker Heights, the Solon Comets need to come back to Earth and focus on the task at hand: Defeating an always tough, always athletic Glenville team, who are coached by Ted Ginn Sr., father of former Ohio State star and NFL player Ted Ginn Jr.
Solon will need to play more efficient football if they want to improve.
Here's five things you need to know about the Week 2 matchup:
1. Game Time: 7 p.m. Friday. The game will be played at Stewart Field at Solon High School.
2. Matchup History: This is the fifth meeting between the Comets and the Tarblooders, and the series is tied 2-2. The last meeting was Solon loss in the playoffs in a 28-27 thriller in 2009.
3. New Rivalry?: Solon signed a two-year contract to play Glenville in the regular season, with the Tarblooders playing in Solon in 2012 and 2013.
"The addition of Glenville to our upcoming schedule adds even more excitement to this off season for us," Head Coach Jim McQuaide said when the matchup was announced. "Our schedule definitely just became more challenging since we have added a nationally recognized team in Glenville."
4. Solon Player to Watch: Yes, Drew Barksdale and Darian Hicks are big time playmakers for Solon, but also keep an eye on running back Khoury Crenshaw, a speedster who had a big impact on last week's win. It was Crenshaw who set up the comeback with a long kick return, giving the Comets great field position, and also scored a touchdown on a pass early in the game. If he breaks through the line, he can't be caught.
