Developer To Break Ground On 'Solon Village' Later This Month
Solon Village, the renamed Solar Shopping Center, will include a new Giant Eagle, Starbucks, Menchie's and other businesses.
Solar Shopping Center is now Solon Village.
The rebranded shopping plaza at the corner of SOM Center and Aurora roads is about to undergo and massive facelift. The purchase of the shopping plaza by Echo Solon was recently finalized.
Work on the shopping plaza is expected to begin later this month. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for May 24.
First up will be construction of a new 12,000-square-foot retail building behind Fifth Third Bank and D.O. Summers.
That building will include a Starbucks with a drive-thru, Menchie's, GNC and Cole Optical. The plan is to have the building complete later this year.
Next, the developers will rip down the south end of the existing plaza, where a new 92,000-square-foot Giant Eagle will be constructed.
Once that store is open, expected in summer 2013, the plan is to tear down portions of the old Giant Eagle and rehab the remaining shopping plaza. The entire plaza is expected to be complete by late 2013.

Yes Starbucks! Not everyone likes Caribou. It will be so nice not to have to drive to Target or Twinsburg for my peppermint mocha. Happiness!!

Great to have a Starbucks closer than Twinsburg, but worried about the competition
for Caribou..altho competition is good, Caribou has been a wonderful addition to
Solon, with such a terrific personable staff...have mixed emotions!
