City Council Quick Takes: Outsourcing, Deer Parks and More

Here's some quick and easily digestable info on what went on at City Hall during Wednesday night's slate of meetings

City Council had a packed night Wednesday with two committee meetings and a special council meeting on tap. Here's what went down:

  • City Council voted to outsource sludge hauling at the sewer plant, which will result in savings of more than $76,000 a year at the budget-challenged plant. To accept the bid of Ohio Bulk Transfer, city council had to reject a counterproposal from the Teamsters Local 436. Paul Solanics, water reclamation director, said the move will not result in any layoffs because the plant has two vacancies and he can re-organize existing staff without cutting positions.
  • The safety committee received a presentation from Urban Deer Solutions, a company proposing to build "" in Solon that they say will attract the deer to remote areas and effectively keep the deer away from roads. While committee members said they wanted some proof as to the effectiveness of the parks, Public Works Commissioner said the option will be one of many options presented to the committee when they make a decision early next month on a comprehensive deer management plan.
  • City council unanimously approved a resolution in support of Solon Schools, which areΒ  about $2.5 million next year and eventually $11 million a year as a result of . Mayor Susan Drucker read the resolution into the record.
